So what do you think about a 1988 BMW R100GS competing against all BMW comers in a qualifying event for the 2012 BMW Motorrad GS Trophy in south America later this year. More specifically how do you think an Airhead BMW GS would do against more modern BMW’s like the venerable R1200GS or the F800GS? Excluding the rider do you think an Airhead can compete with the off-road performance of the newer more technically advanced Dual Sport BMW’s of the 21st century?

This year there will be 2 simultaneous USA Trophy Qualifying events to qualify for 3 slots on the USA GS Trophy Team. The locations are Spartanburg, SC and Moab, UT. It is 3 days of what you can expect to be grueling motorcycle riding and special tests. Not only is BMW looking for great riders but to qualify you must also posses excellent social media skills. From the winners of the 2 qualifying events only 3 will go to South America to compete against teams around the world.
